MG4 XPOWER owners — what tyres are you running? need help

picked up the MG4 XPOWER in October. loving it.

winter tires question: the OEM 20" rims are beautiful but I really don't want to spend $800+ on winter tires to fit them. I want a smaller steel rim set for winters.

what size are people running? does 18" work? does dropping to 18" mess with the speedometer or range significantly?

also: which winter tires have you found work best? Blizzak? Michelin X-Ice? the local tire shop is pushing some generic Hankook winters on me and I don't trust that recommendation

18" works perfectly, no speedometer issues. I'm running 225/50R18 on steel rims. range difference is basically nothing compared to the range loss from cold temps generally. don't stress it

Michelin X-Ice 3+ on 18s here. genuinely excellent in BC winter. the grip difference vs all-seasons is significant and worth every penny

avoid the generic Hankooks if you can. Blizzak WS90 or Michelin X-Ice both have way more snow compound research behind them. for a performance car in Canadian winter don't cheap out on the tires

the steel rim savings are real. bought steel rims from a wrecker for $280, OEM Blizzaks fit. the OEM alloys go in storage. net savings vs buying winter alloys was about $400-500

one thing: with 18s and taller sidewall profile the car's handling character changes slightly — less sharp, more comfortable. on snow that's actually an advantage. on dry tarmac you'll miss the 20s a tiny bit
