Haval Jolion vs Omoda 5 — my honest comparison after driving both

Spent 3 weeks going back and forth between the Haval Jolion and Omoda 5 before pulling the trigger on the Jolion. Budget: $35,000–38,000 CAD. Coming from a 2019 Honda CR-V.

Exterior: Omoda 5 wins — more aggressive, distinctive LED DRL design.

Interior: Haval Jolion wins — better materials, more comfortable driver seat, quieter cabin.

Driving: Jolion is smoother and more comfortable on rough Ontario roads. Omoda 5 feels sportier but stiffer.

Practicality: Jolion has more cargo volume and better rear headroom.

Fuel economy (real world): Jolion PHEV 2.1L/100km average vs Omoda 5 1.6T at ₈.2L/100km.

Final decision: Haval Jolion PHEV at $36,800 CAD out the door. Happy after 6 weeks and 4,000km.

Great comparison. I went Omoda 5 because the Chery dealer opened closer to me in Ottawa. Does the Jolion DCT ever feel jerky in very slow stop-go traffic?

Honestly yes — in very slow 427-at-rush-hour traffic there's occasional hesitation pulling away from almost-stopped. Improved after 3,000km as it learns your style. But it's there.

The Tiggo 8 Pro is a different class — bigger, more expensive. If you need 7 seats it's worth a look. I was comparing like-for-like compact SUVs.

Haval has been in Commonwealth markets longer — big in Australia and South Africa — so the dealer and parts network is more mature. That counted for me when I was shopping too.
