this happened Tuesday and my anxiety still hasn't fully recovered
driving Dolphin from Toronto to Kingston for a meeting. stopped at the Whitby Electrify Canada station (my usual stop). both 150kW stalls were occupied. waited 20 minutes. got one. paid. it made a noise. did not charge.
moved to the other stall. dead.
I now had 18% and 140km to Kingston. this should be fine with 20km buffer. except I forgot it was raining and cold and my range estimate dropped to 130km.
drove at 90km/h in the right lane like a grandma. no AC, no heat, just seat heaters. watched the percentage creep down.
arrived Kingston 4%. FOUR PERCENT.
lessons learned:
- always know the backup charger location
- don't just check PlugShare, call ahead if you're in a margin situation
- the Dolphin's range prediction at highway speeds is pessimistic when you're going slowly — the final 20km I gained efficiency by going slower
I'm fine. car is fine. I need a snack.
