7 months with the Omoda 5 in Wellington. bit of a different EV life to the aussies — Wellington hills are genuinely steep and the wind is genuinely savage.
what I've learned:
hills: the regen on descents in Wellington is excellent. I'm recovering meaningful energy going down the Terrace tunnel area daily. the hills that everyone worries about are actually an EV advantage.
wind: worst I've seen is 25% range hit on a truly savage southerly day. this is a Wellington tax, not an EV specific issue — everything suffers in 100+km/h winds.
charging: ChargeNet NZ has been reliable for my use. home L2 is my main charger. no complaints.
service: only dealer in Wellington. professional. waiting times similar to getting your ICE serviced at a busy dealer.
overall: the Omoda 5 in Wellington specifically is a surprisingly good match. The car feels planted in wind. The hill recovery is real. Happy purchase.
