After 18 months with a grey-market BYD Han EV in BC, I've had to figure out parts sourcing the hard way. Here's everything I know.
Tier 1: Canadian Dealers
For officially sold models, call the official dealer first. Warranty covers most things 5 years. Common parts usually in stock or 2-3 weeks out. Less common parts ordered from China — 4-8 week lead time with markup.
Tier 2: AliExpress / Alibaba (best value)
My primary source for consumables. Tips:
- Filter "ships from Canada warehouse" for faster delivery
- Look for 98%+ ratings and 500+ reviews
- Search by OEM part number
- Shipping from China: 2-3 weeks usually, 6 worst case
Successfully ordered: wiper blades, cabin filter, floor mats, door handles, trim pieces, 12V battery, fuses.
Tier 3: RockAuto
If your Chinese car uses standard global components (many do — brakes, filters, tyres) RockAuto ships to Canada competitively.
Tier 4: Australian forums
Australia had Chinese cars earlier. The MG Owners Club Australia Facebook group has been sourcing parts longer — useful for compatible part numbers.
Always get part numbers at service — ask the tech to write down OEM numbers for everything replaced. Gold for future sourcing.
Drop your model below and I'll try to help find specific sources.
